KELLEN WINSLOW
Country: UNITED STATES
Zodiac Sign: CANCER
Birth Date: JULY 21, 1983
Kellen Winslow, tight end for the Cleveland Browns is the son of Hall of Famer, Kellen Winslow. Kellen Winslow Jr. was born in San Diego in 1983, and has always been proud of his father's stellar career and has wanted to follow in his footsteps. Kellen was a star player at the Universtiy of Miami, where he was a two-year starter. In his Junior year, he was awarded the John Mackey Prize as the best collegiate tight end.
However, Kellen Winslow's career has been marked with controversy and challenge. While he was still playing against Miami, Winslow injured two players on the opposing team, the Tennessee Volunteers. It was said that he stood over the two players and taunted them as they were lying on the ground. When asked to account for his aggressive behavior and lack of compassion, Kellen immediately launched into a speech about how playing football is like a war and he was only acting like a soldier; "He would do the same thing to me. It's war. They don't give a freakin' you-know-what about you. They will kill you. They're out there to kill you. So I'm 'a kill 'em. You write that in the paper. You write that. You make money off that," said Kellen. His remarks sparked controversy and widespread disapproval, since they were considered by many to be disrespectful to the men and women who were serving in the armed forces in Iraq. Kellen Winslow later issued a written apology and said he meant no disrespect to actual soldiers.
Kellen Winslow was picked in the first round of the NFL Draft. Great things were expected of Winslow, but he was injured just two games into his rookie season and lost a $5 million bonus in 2004. He was off the scene for the rest of the season. In 2005, Kellen Winslow was also out of commission because of a serious motorcycle accident which also left him with a staph infection from the hospital. Even though engaging in dangerous pursuits such as riding a motorcycle is contrary to the contract professional football players sign, Winslow was not fined or suspended.
After his series of injuries, Kellen was still confident that he would lead his team to victory. After the doctors said he could play at 90% capacity, Kellen bragged that even at only 90% he was better than any other tight end in football. Finally in 2006, Kellen scored his first touchdown against the Saints. His knee problems were not finished, and he returned for knee surgery in 2006.
Kellen Winslow continued to be a controversial figure when he hit Pittsburg Steelers players hard from behind and prompted an insult from a Steeler player. He is known to be an aggressive player, albeit a talented one, and while he has had to sit out most of his career so far, great things are expected from Kellen Winslow who may achieve Hall of Fame status, like his father. Time will tell if his leg problems are over and if he can continue to play for an long enough period of time to score major touchdowns.
