Even though the fashion “buzz” about the Golden Globes is always about the beautiful designer gowns and the millions of dollars in glittering jewels, I’d like to shine the spotlight on the men for a change. At this year’s 69th annual Golden Globes event, held at the Beverly Hills Hilton International Ballroom, there were a number of men who rivaled their female counterparts in tasteful dressing.
Gerard Butler’s handsome, three piece navy Savatore Ferragamo tux with wide lapels, a white button down shirt with navy buttons and white bow tie, plunging vest and matching pleated pants certainly got second and third looks from the crowd. Jesse Tyler, from Modern Family, sported a rich looking black velvet, three piece Z Zegna with a white shirt and ivory bow tie that really accentuated his skin tone, hair color and eyes to nail this sophisticated look. Of course, Brad Pitt managed to pull it all together in his traditionally tasteful, Tom Ford creation, which was a good choice with his wife’s simply modern Versace.
Another show stealer was Robert Downey Jr., who strode up to the podium in his custom Gucci black jacket with classic tails, a white pique cotton vest and a classy silk white tie to take his turn in presenting the Golden Globe nominees. However, the absolutely most stunning look of the evening had to be Johnny Depp’s number. He managed to put a spin on a traditionally formal look with his open collar white shirt, asymmetrical lapels, and contrasting green vest to his dark tux by Tom Ford. Also, he added a little whimsy with his long necklace, rings, and antique-looking pocket watch that hung by a chain below his jacket. For this, he was in a category all his own, which is exactly what you expect from Johnny Depp.
So, even though the Red Carpet at the Golden Globes was flooded with gorgeous women in their “one of a kind” creations and their museum quality gems, the men shone just as brightly with their own fashion sense. Bravo guys!
