Walking For Fun, Fitness and Finance

For people who do not have the time, inclination or money to do routine exercises, walking serves as an excellent alternative. It isn’t expensive either. As a matter of fact, it will save you some money as far as transportation expenses are concerned.

If you take the bus to and from work, walk a station or two further than the ones you get on and off on. If your offices are on the 29th floor, get off on the 27th and use the remaining two flights of stairs to tone your leg muscles.

Walking is also a great way to meet people and see some sights that you wouldn't have seen if you were riding your car, bus, train or cab. Walking also gives you time to think. For example, it's common to see the men of the house taking a cup of coffee in the morning while thinking of the day ahead in the office. They then get in their cars or head to the bus stop to go to the office. If these men set aside some time to do some light walking, they could have used that walking time to think of office affairs and added more quality time for their homes. When going home, these same men can use walking time as winding down time. By the time they get home, their focus can be redirected to house matters because all the necessary thinking and brooding has already been over and done with.

Walking is a repetitive motion done over a certain time and distance. If done long and far enough, the cardio-respiratory organs begin to work harder for oxygen. Because the body demands more oxygen, the heart needs to pump faster and the lungs need to expand and contract at a faster rate too. This repetitive exercise of the heart and lungs over a prolonged period of time is called aerobic exercising. Unlike jogging or running, walking does not place that much of a strain on the heart.

Still doubting? Okay. Here are some incentives. Did you know that walking can prevent erectile dysfunction? Oh yeah! If you want to have the biggest chance of avoiding ED when you hit middle age, walk! It has also been proven that walking, and exercising in general, prompts the body to release endorphins. Endorphin is the natural ecstasy drug of the body. You get into a better mood after walking or exercising. If you’re mood is somewhat dark, walk. Walk a couple of miles a day and you have bigger chances of preventing diseases like diabetes, cancers and heart problems. Because of the extra stimuli that you encounter as you walk, your brain constantly processes the information and stimulates your thought processes and creative juices. Walk that two miles daily and you just might avoid senility. Basically, if you want to live to a ripe, old age, without suffering the many effects of living with an old body, walk!
