Hair Loss Causes and Preventions

Losing hair is seen as inevitable part of growing old and whilst baldness is a problem suffered predominantly by men, it is entirely possible for women to suffer from premature hair loss as well. You would be hard pressed to find a market which is as controversial and scandal ridden as the hair loss market because there has been no shortage of inferior products. Time and time again there has been a product released which boasts miraculous results and sadly, does not live up to its own grandiose claims. One of the major shortcomings with such hair loss products is that they tend to deal with only a limited number of the issues that cause hair loss rather than the entire range of problems.

Another problem that severely hinders any sort of real progress for the effective treatment of hair loss is the sheer amount of myths that surround the issue. Most the of the strongly held myths is that hair loss is primarily hereditary and therefore if you have a genetic pre-disposition to hair loss, then there is very little you can do to stop the process. Whilst this is true, it also extremely rare and only a handful of people will actually suffer hair loss to such an extent and directly as a result of their genes.

Severe fluctuations in the hormone levels and balance can also help to accelerate the hair loss process and this is especially true for women in two situations specific to them: pregnancy and during the menopause. Within 12 weeks of giving birth many women find that they lose their hair in quite a significant amount and whilst this maybe be alarming please note that this is only temporary. A woman’s hormones fluctuate wildly during pregnancy and once the hormones are then brought under control, into a more stable level, then the hair loss will stop.

Hair loss is a common and rather unavoidable symptom of chemotherapy treatment and sadly there is very little to offset the hair loss caused by the treatment. Some people try to apply ice packs and other cold materials to their scalp so as to reduce the circulation of the blood to the scalp but given how many nerves are found in the scalp this can be very painful indeed. To date, there has been no real way of helping to prevent the hair loss process.

Another cause for hair loss is lack of biotin in the diet, and so an increase in your daily consumption of biotin will help to offset the hair loss caused by this, and you can either increase the biotin levels by means of eating more eggs and liver products or simply by taking nutritional supplements . Vitamin A is another essential vitamin for preventing hair loss (although there are a number of other health benefits associated with it as well). Please be warned though that an excessive consumption of this vitamin will also result in hair loss so please ensure you strike the right balance!
